Don't Beat Yourself Up

I'm pretty sure we're all guilty of beating ourselves up too much and being too hard on yourself. You're an amazing human being, and that's surely something to celebrate, right?

As bloggers we can be overly critical of ourselves with our blog layout and content to how many tweets we post a day or comments we leave on other blogs. Sometimes my blog is the last thing I want to look at as there's so much improvement that can be done to it. But you know what, I'm fed up of comparing my blog to other blogs and myself to others. It's draining on me and such a waste of time, when it could be spent doing other things! Comparison is a big weed in my garden when it comes to beating myself up, it's like the dandelion in my sunflowers.

In my opinion, social media plays a big part in us comparing ourselves to others. Did my photo get more likes than his? Am I taller/shorter/slimmer/prettier than she is? It's a never ending vicious circle! I was lucky enough to not grown up with a smart phone and tablet, only a pink Nokia flip phone on a pay as you go contract that only did texts and calls. I had to wait until the next day to talk to my friends about what happened on the Simpsons last night - can you imagine?! With no social media or advanced technology, there wasn't such a big pressure on comparing yourself to someone else's Twitter followers or Instagram likes.

What I'm trying to get across is that your uniqueness as a person holds no comparison to anyone or anything else, so don't beat yourself up about it. Hold that thought whilst you're scrolling through Instagram or having a browse/stalking session on Facebook - and celebrate yourself just the way you are.

What's your opinion on this? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Thanks for reading.
