This Month I...

March was another great month - I'm kinda feeling like a broken record saying this each month! Of course there was a few days when I was in the grumpiest mood ever and had enough of everything, but March is definitely ending on a high.

This Month I... ate lots of sushi! If I had a choice of my last meal on earth, it would definitely be sushi and preferably this particular bento box from Eat Tokyo. I was searching for a new sushi place for me and my brother last week and TripAdvisor recommended Eat Tokyo. They have a few branches in London, the Soho one being the closest for me - but definitely book if you're planning to go!

This Month I... bought a new summer things from Missguided. Although it's not my usual shop, after seeing Scarlett London showing off her new shoes on Instagram Stories, I had to snap up a pair! I bought this dress, which I featured in this OOTD post, and this pair of Valentino-esque sandals which I'm so looking forward to wearing.

This Month I... read a lot of blogger posts! There's nothing book-wise that is really rocking my boat at the moment, but I've been reading a lot of blogs on my commute. Bloggers to read are: From Roses, The Makeup Directory, Britton Loves and Hello Jordan to name a few!

This Month I... watched Beauty & The Beast. Classic film this month and I definitely wasn't disappoointed by what I saw! I'd probably give it a 9/10 because it stayed true to the original and the cast was very well matched. Some points were a little scary, but my favourite scene is when they have a snowball fight - #couplegoals.

This Month I... laughed at Russell Howard and got new cats! At the beginning of the month, my dad and I went to see Russell Howard at the Royal Albert Hall. Not only was the venue amazing, but Russell Howard was on point as usual. Finally we adopted two cats from the Cats Protection about a week ago, they're called Cleo and Indie and are still a little nervous but settling in well. Keep an eye out for them on my Instagram Stories!

How was March for you?

OOTD: Missguided Swing Dress and Denim Jacket

Jacket: Primark
Shoes: ASOS
Bag: Zara
Necklace: Accessorize

I'm totally guilty of dressing for spring and summer at the first sign of sunshine and warmer weather - it's hard not to get excited about dresses, sandals and bikinis again! That being said I really do need to get back into my fitness routine to be bikini ready by the summer... I've only just finished off my chocolates from Christmas and next month it'll be Easter again and I can't resist a Malteaser bunny or two. (I eat their ears first because my mum always told me it's so they can't hear themselves being eaten - we're a weird family!)

I picked up this grey swing dress from Missguided when there was a 20% discount floating about and I thought it would be perfect for my trip to Rome in July. It's going to be boiling hot, so a few floaty dresses are going to keep this pale British gal cool in the heat! I also got this pair of Valentino-dupe shoes for the Rome trip too as they're so pretty and the perfect evening shoes.

What do you love wearing in the spring and summer?

Things That Have Made Me Smile This Week

It's been a very difficult week this week and I'm sure we could all do with some cheering up! So I thought I'd put together a few of the things that have made me smile this week and could hopefully make you smile too.

1. Spring.
How nice is the weather right now?! Now the clocks have gone forward, we have that extra hour of sunlight in the evening which makes all the difference. My favourite times are either early in the morning at around sunrise or early evening when the sun throws out all kinds of beautiful light.

2. The Kat Von D and Makeup Revolution scandal.
When I saw what was going on Instagram and Twitter, I couldn't resist reading through all the comments and see what everyone had to think! Hayley from London Beauty Queen did a fab post on #DupeGate and weighed up the options of duping in the beauty industry. Well worth a read!

3. Eating cake.
I have a definite sweet tooth, there's no denying that! Last year we got a Christmas delivery from one of the digital companies we work with at my work and it was from Cutter & Squidge. And it was filled with loads of Biskies, which is a creamy, mouse type filling sandwiched between two biscuits. DELICIOUS!

4. Spending time with my friends and family.
This past week has been very friends and family orientated, with my sister's birthday last week, lunches with my work colleages, seeing my brother on Friday and going to see Beauty & The Beast at the cinema with one of my closest friends. There's no better medicine than your friends and family!

5. New cats.
So last week we adopted two cats from our local Cats Protection! Previously we had two cats from kittens for about 10 years and we've been missing them for some time. The new cats are called India and Cleo and they're quite nervous, but slowly getting used to us now.

6. Uniting everyone.
It's hard not to skirt around what happened on Wednesday afternoon and what a tragic attack is was. One quote I like is "The Flower That Blooms In Advertsity Is The Rarest And Most Beautiful Of The All" and dotted around many tube stations that evening.

What has made you smile this week?

OOTD: A simple work outfit and a throwback chat

I want you to cast your minds back to 2013, the days when I first started getting into my blog and posting daily outfits. Each day coming back from sixth form, I would prop my camera up against my dressing table or, in my advanced stages, take a photo in front of the mirror. Then I would chat about my day as I would to my mum or sister and probably mention little about the outfit.

Nowadays the big fashion bloggers have professional photographers following them, tripods and fancy camera equipment. It's a whole new world out there! I knew I was never going to make it as a fashion blogger, which is probably a good thing as I'm not the best at it. And as my blog wound its way into fashion/lifestyle/beauty, the daily outfits got pushed out and now a weekly Thursday OOTD gets posted instead. I like the way my blog has evolved, it's natural to me that I talk about beauty and planning my lifestyle and advice posts are probably my favourite posts to schedule now!

See how I haven't even mentioned my above outfit?! This is simply my go-to work outfit, nothing fancy or special but it does the job. I live in my M&S Super Skinny Jeans, they're basically like a second skin to me now and I love how they fit around me. It would be a lie to say this top and cardigan weren't previously my sisters and now probably so old you won't believe!

Do you post daily or weekly outfits? What was your blogging style when you first started out?

Which Eyeliner To Choose?

Eyeliner is as much as a staple part of my makeup as foundation or brow products are. Without it my eyes look a little dull and boring, plus it's a great way to add a bit of colour and creativity! I'm not very particular with what product I use, it's really whatever takes my fancy and what I have time for each day.

Gel Eyeliner
This is my ultimate luxury eyeliner, if I have the time and patience to create an eyeliner flick - it'll be with my gel eyeliner! I use the Real Techniques Angled Eyeliner Brush from the Nic's Picks Collection to apply as it's great for reaching the inner corner and for building upon a bold flick. The reason I love gel eyeliner is because it lasts all day, smudge-proof and the colour pay-off is so much better than khol eyeliner.

A bit of a different type of eyeliner, but I like using the darker shades from eyeshadow palettes to create a soft and smoky eyeliner look. Because khol and liquid eyeliner can look a little harsh on my lower lashes, using eyeshadow is a good and easy alternative. I like using the Makeup Revolution Redemption Palette Essential Mattes 2 as it has a nice mixture of nudes and browns to try!

Liquid and Pencil
Forever and always, liquid eyeliner will be my go-to for lazy makeup days. I've tried quite a few high street eyeliners, which are just as good as the high end ones, proof that you don't need to spend a lot of get a lot! My current favourite is the L'Oreal Super Liner, which gives you a rich black line and the nib is super flexible and easy to create a flick. Khol eyeliner isn't my favourite, but when it comes to coloured eyeliner I much prefer using khol. I have a few different colours, mainly blues and greens as they're pretty 'safe' in the colour spectrum! The Model Co Navy Eyeliner is the most used in my collection, easy to apply and smudge, but a right pain to remove afterwards...

What's your favourite eyeliner type? Any brands I need to try?

Your New Week Motivation

I didn't really have a post planned for today and thought I'd just write about whatever came to me first! The thing about Sunday evenings, is that you know Monday is just around the corner and sometimes that thought can make you wish it was Saturday all over again.

For me, Mondays aren't so bad. It signals the start of a new week and an opportunity to hit the refresh button. And starting the week off the right way is so important! Once I get my working week off to a good start, I know the rest of the week is going to be great. This could be waking up a few minutes earlier, so I'm not rushing around trying to get ready to leave for work. Or it can even start the night before with a proper routine of a beauty regime, followed by reading a book snuggled in bed.

My point is, Monday and a new week really doesn't have to be something that fills you with dread each Sunday evening. Start with your Sunday evening and do something relaxing, whether that's a Lush filled bath, taking your best book to bed with you or watching one of your favourite TV programmes. Then plan something to look forward to on Monday, like dinner out with friends, a new fitness class you've always wanted to try or buying a cheeky cookie or cake on your break just because!

What's your best tip for motivating you for the new week?

Things My Sister Taught Me

It's not every day your big sister turns 30 and this post is dedicated to all the wise things she's taught me! There's an eight year difference between us, but you wouldn't really be able to tell. Like all families, we've grown up together on holidays, family gatherings, Christmases and everything in between and she's as much of a sister as she is a best friend to me.

Here's The Things My Sister Taught Me:

To Trust - When I started learning to drive, my sister let me have a try in her Suzuki Swift - which is a very fast and sporty car! She trusted me to drive it and thankfully I didn't crash it....

To Believe In Myself - I almost didn't go to my interview for a journalism college course, but with a lot of encouragement my sister helped me with my portfolio and gave me the belief that I could do it (and I did!)

To Never Stop Dreaming - From the last photo, you can see my sister got married recently! She had this vision in her head of how her wedding would be and she achieved it, proof that you should never stop dreaming.

To Be Generous - The amount of clothes, jewellery and beauty products I've gratefully received from my sister over the years is evident of just how generous she is! We also hold our coffee mornings throughout the year and regularly bakes cakes for family and friends for their birthdays.

To Have Fun - There are a lot of in jokes within our family, nicknames and a fair few embarrassing stories, but I will always remember spending time with my sister is so much fun. We've been known to laugh until we cry and end up in silent giggles, something I hope we'll continue doing until we're old!

Happy Birthday Beka!

What things have your siblings taught you?

OOTD: A Winter Primark Look

Jumper and Top: Primark
Jeans: ASOS
Boots: Miss Selfridge
Coat: Debenhams
Bag: Zara

This outfit is an ode to the cold winter times and one I'll definitely be missing when summer comes around! I love wearing cosy jumpers and roll necks with jeans and boots during the winter, it's my usual go-to outfit. I got this jumper from Primark a few years ago and it's fab to layer up, either with a burgundy or black long sleeved top or one of my stripey numbers, which there are quite a few of...

I've been seeing a lot of the Chloe hoop bags in magazines recently (and not to mention my sister has actually got one for her 30th birthday!) and love this dupe from Zara that my friend got for my birthday last year. You can never go wrong with a classic bucket bag style and the size is perfect for going out.

What is your favourite winter outfit?

Instagram: Pancakes, Certificates and Feeling Happy

It's been a while since I've done a mid-month catch up, so it's about due! The previous week has been crazy with work and social - and next week isn't letting up either... Make sure you're following on Instagram and watching my Insta Stories too!

So we ended February with Pancake Day! We were having a discussion at work about what's your pancake topping and mine always has to be sweet - especially with Nutella spread and fried banana. Although my pancake flipping skills are awful compared to everyone else on Instagram...

Last weekend I finally got to see my favourite comedian, Russell Howard and he was everything I could imagine! I've watched him on Mock The Week as well as his own show, Russell Howard's Good News and the thing I like about him best is that he always talks about things that matter to me. He had a long talk about the NHS, Donald Trump and the rise of young people self harming, including his hilarious family anecdotes. Definitely give his programs and videos a watch!

When it's sunny in London, I always take advantage of my lunch breaks and walk to somewhere new. The Seven Dials is one of my favourite places to wander round at the moment, they've got such quaint and Instagrammable shop fronts! I'll normally end up in Neal's Yard too, then onto Covent Garden for shopping obvs...

Something very exciting landed in my inbox last week - my certificate for my Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing! Seeing that next to my name has made it all the more real and I'm super proud to have that to add to my CV. Just proof that all the hard work really does pay off.

Some people find taking and posting selfies on Instagram a bit weird, but I've steadily grown to like them. If I really like my makeup or hair that day or just want to give myself a confidence boost, then I'll take a few pictures. It's not like I've got mountains of them, but if you're feeling happy and good about yourself then taking a photo memory of it isn't that bad!

What's been your highlight this week?

Primark and Mark & Spencer Spring Haul

It's been such a long time since I've done a haul post, and to be honest I don't really go shopping for clothes at this time of the year! I'm too comfortable in my old jumpers and long dresses that winter is probably my least inspiring season. But fear not, I still picked up a few good'uns....

Starting with my favourite pick of the bunch, I found this gorgeous striped dress with flared sleeves in Primark for just £10. Of course being stripey was a big plus for me and I just love flared sleeves too. It's great quality for the price and fairly thick, so I've been wearing it as it is with a pair of tights, but can totally see me wearing it in the summer with sandals too!

Primark Ruffle Shoulder Top £5

I didn't say the striped obsession stopped there did I?! Ruffles are a big trend on the high street right now - so are a bit too froffy for me, but this top hits the right balance. Primark have various different colours with ruffled shoulders all for £5, so it's quite tempting to get a few at once! I've been wearing it with jeans, but also tucked into skirts and over pinafores are really cute.

Primark Longline Bomber Cardigan £10

So when I picked up this cardigan, it was a freeing cold day in January and all I wanted was a big cosy cardigan to cuddle up in! It's in a longline bomber jacket style with a zip and pockets (aka the dream). The super thick wool has kept me very warm over the winter and now acts as my blogging cardigan because it's just so darn comfy!

Finding the right pair of jeans is a mission in itself, but if you're looking for a lightweight skinny jean then I really recommend Marks & Spencer jeans. I've probably gone through 4 pairs of these jeans now and I still have my first pair (which are now grey, but that's okay!). These are the jeans I turn to when I want something comfy but still fitted without constricting me. I love the shape and high waist because I have a few cropped tops I like to wear with them! I'm wearing a size 10 Long, originally I was a Regular length but it appears I've grown so make sure you try them on first.

And just because Marks & Spencer had a 20% off voucher floating about, I stumbled across these cute pair of flats with ribbon tie detail. It's no secret that I love a tie or lace up shoe and these just seemed too pretty to miss. They'll be perfect for the summer as they're so lightweight and easy to wear, but I can imagine if I was a bit braver they'd look great over tights too! P.S. Apologies for getting my feet in your face, I really hate taking photos of my feet too...

What have you bought recently? Am I missing anything good from Primark?

Skincare Advice I Wish I Knew When I Was Younger

When I first started getting into beauty products, your skincare routine probably included facial wipes, a face wash and moisturiser. Nowadays there's an army of facial mists, serums are now an essential and when did everyone start using sheet masks?!

Even though my skin can be very temperamental (hello hormonal breakout right now!) I have started to take better care of it. Saying that, I really wish I had this skincare advice when I was younger:

- Exfoliating is everything.
I was always under the impression exfoliating is super damaging for my skin and rarely used a face or body scrub, maybe once every few weeks? Now I use a face scrub twice a week and give my body an overall buff once a week and can really tell the difference. My skin is now a lot brighter and applying the rest of my skincare is so much easier and my body is now so smooth, it's hard to not stroke! haha

- Apply SPF everyday.
Being the English Rose complexion I am, my skin burns very easily and it's quite bad. My shoulders are the worst for burning quickly! Now I apply a facial 50 SPF every day after my moisturiser, because even if the sun isn't out, your skin can still be damaged by the rays breaking through the clouds.

- Getting into a good routine.
Everyone harps on about the importance of removing your makeup properly before going to bed, but when I was younger? Not so much! Starting with a good cleanse to remove makeup, then another to really clean your face from anything that's gotten deeper, next a toner and finally a moisturiser which is tailored to your skin is the ideal started routine. (I'm still trying to work out mine, as mentioned in my Beauty Things I'm Really Bad At post!)

- Eye cream is a must.
I'm still on the hunt for my perfect all-in-one eye cream, so if you have any recommendations please do let me know! But I have used a few in the past and could really tell the difference in my overall look. If you pick a good eye cream, then it means less to cover up with makeup!

- Not everything will work for your skin.
I remember trying out face masks that really did not suit my skin, then breaking out a few days later and all because I didn't know what really suited my skin type. It's still a case of trial and error for me, but now I have a bunch of blogs and honest online reviews which really help when choosing my next skincare product.

What skincare advice would you give to your younger self?

5 Tips From Capture Your Style by Aimee Song

Rather that doing another book review, I thought it would be much more useful to share my favourite tips from Capture Your Style by Aimee Song. If you haven't heard of this book by now (it's been doing the blogger rounds!) it's a book all about transforming your Instagram photos and building your platform - the ultimate guide for any blogger struggling with the annoying algorithm!

1. Use geo tags to see other posts and get creative
If you don't follow Song Of Style, Aimee's Instagram already then I recommend you do. Whenever Aimee goes travelling to tourist areas, she looks at the geo-tag from that area and scrolls through to see what angles and positions those photos are taken from. Then she'll pick a different spot from those to make it more interesting! I like this idea as it'll get you thinking creatively and make it more likeable too.

2. Practice practice practice to find your style!
If you're Instagram is full of flatlays, practice until you find your style and go with it - but don't be afraid to mix it up, there's no set rules! One New Yorker I follow on Instagram has an amazing shoe collection and takes daily photos of her shoe of the day in the same way. Consistency and content is key.

3. Post at least once a day, if not more
Aimee wrote her book before Instagram Stories came out, but she recommends posting an Instagram at least once a day if not more. I personally can only post once a day as that's all I have time for, but regularly upload to my Stories to keep my profile looking fresh and relevant. Also choose times when you know people will be on Instagram e.g. early morning or late at night, but not when everyone is asleep!

4. Interact with the community
Instagram is nothing without people liking, commenting, sharing and uploading. It's easy to get into the habit of 'scroll and like' - I'm totally guilty of this on lazy days, but break it up with a comment or two. Tag people in who you think will enjoy this post or ask a question and start a conversation. You'll see the return soon enough!

5. Maintain an authentic feed
We all get that Instagram is showing the best representation of yourself, I've been there with taking more than one selfie to find the perfect angle. But maintaining an authentic feed is the most important thing for long term branding success. Think why people follow you and if you aren't staying true to yourself with your photos, will they really hang around for too long?

As we're talking about Instagram, it's time to plug my own feed! You can find me on @rhiannonblog on Instagram and Twitter, where I update daily and am always sharing a Story or two.

You can pick up Capture Your Style by Aimee Song for £8.39 on Amazon or £11.99 from Waterstones.

OOTD: Leopard Bomber and Leather Skirt Layering

Jumper: Primark
Top: Abercrombie
Skirt and Bag: Zara
Boots: Miss Selfridge
Coat: Warehouse

A known saying from the ladies in our family is 'wear lots of layers!' and since then, we always wear at least two or three layers - mainly for the warmth! From my last OOTD, you can see I love layering as much as I am in the outfit too. I picked up this jumper from Primark last year in the sale and it's been the comfiest jumper to throw on any plain outfit to add a pattern.

Last week I had a weird experience on the train, more odd than usual. On my cream Warehouse coat I've added a badge and brooch; the badge is from a Coldplay concert last year and the brooch I think my sister gave to me, it's of a cute swallow bird which is one of my favourite animals. A guy sitting opposite me began loudly saying "Can you hear me?!" whilst I was listening to my music, until I realised that he was talking to me after the 3rd question. Then he enquired if it represented a religion or cult or something - obvs I just told him it was for fashion purposes only and that closed down the conversation... haha. So odd.

What do you think of this outfit?
