This Month I....

So January went pretty quickly didn't it?! Full of catching back up with work and making plans for the rest of the year, it's definitely ending on a high. I hope you all had a fab time too!

This Month I... ate Mexican! So it isn't my usual style of cuisine but since working in London, I've definitely ventured out from the usual Prezzo and Pizza Express. This month I went to Chiquitos and had the best pulled pork flatbread and also had delicious tapas at Wahaca in Soho - which I would so recommend!!

This Month I... bought new eye makeup from L'Oreal Paris. It was time to update my eyeshadow palette from MUA, as well as sort my brows out and find the holy grail of eyeliners! Read my full review of the L'Oreal La Palette Nude, Super Liner Perfect Slim and Brow Artist Plumper here.

This Month I... watched a whole lot of films! When it's dark, cold and you don't have a lot of money after Christmas, all you want to do is curl up in front of the TV by the fire and with the last of the Christmas chocolate. These are a few of my DVD selection, and I also started re-watching Pretty Little Liars again (I originally watched season 1 then gave up!) which I am now addicted to...

This Month I... read The Mini Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella and Stylist magazine. To brighten up my January I turned to chic lit Sophie Kinsella, and actually enjoyed the book! It wasn't amazing but not totally awful at the same time, perhaps I should try reading the first one next. Every week I pick up Stylist magazine from the train station, and it takes up at least two train journey's with engaging and insightful articles - they also do a free app version too!

This Month I... usually do an 'what I experienced' post but this month nothing that exciting actually happened. I guess getting through January is an experience enough! I've been making some plans for next month and I'm actually really excited, so I'm finishing January with; 'Life is short. Smile whilst you still have teeth!'

What's been your highlight in January?

Inspiring Pinterest Outfits

Right now I'm going through a fashion rut, the weather is rubbish, my office is always freezing cold and I'm lacking inspiration in general. Pinterest is my favourite place to turn to when I'm stuck in a rut, just scrolling through the Women's Fashion section has given me a ton of ideas for the new week! So I thought I would share a few of my favourite winter styles I'm pinning and loving now:

There's nothing cosier than an oversized jumper! Smartened up with a shirt and boots, it's definitely wearable for work too. I love the gold jewellery accessories too!

Even though this winter can be pretty cold, I do love wearing dresses and skirts. Just throw on a pair of thick tights (and I'm talking Primark Super Cosy Tights too) and some boots for the ultimate warm outfit!

I honestly wished I looked this good in a hat! And sunglasses for that matter. Big cosy scarves are my addiction, especially tartan ones but I feel that owning more than one is totally acceptable!

Following on from my big scarf obsession, I'd love to be able to pull off this kind of look! With just a pair of knee high boots and a belt, it stops the scarf from overwhelming and actually makes it into a great outfit.

Shirts underneath dresses are my favourite way to re-spin a dress for work. All you need is a good fitting white shirt and your favouirte dress! Add a belt or statement necklace and you're good to go.

What do you do when you're in a styling rut? Do you like Pinterest too?

Handy Beauty Tips and Hacks

I'm an avid fan of beauty tips and hacks, anything that can cut a few seconds out of my routine or make my hairstyle last longer is always a good thing in my book. Last year I shared these tips and tricks, but I've got a few new ones to share:

  • When trying an eyeliner flick, always start on the outer corner then work your way inwards!
  • If your liquid eyeliner is always smudging or fading, apply the same coloured eyeshadow over the top to make it last longer.
  • Two or three thin layers of nail polish is better than one thick layer as it lasts longer and the colour is better.
  • Cover spots or blemishes by using a fluffy brush to 'push' concealer onto it instead of brushing across.
  • Scrub your body before shaving! Using a body scrub afterwards can irritate delicate skin.
  • Make sure your eyebrows are lighter at the beginning, darker at the arch then fade out on the outer corner. It looks a lot more natural!
  • Smooth out flyaways and frizzy hair by spraying your hairbrush with hairspray then brushing through.
  • Label your beauty products with the date of when you opened them to keep track of expiry dates!
What's your best beauty tip or hack?

Instagram: New Dress, Snow and Switching Off From Technology

As if I need another reason to shop at Zara, but how cute are their tags?! Anything that adds a bit of personality to shopping gets my thumbs up.

I posted about a new L'Oreal Makeup Haul on the blog the other day. L'Oreal isn't usually a brand I go for, but I do really rate their eye makeup! Full review here.

It's probably been a few months since I last had a haircut, you can usually tell by the length of my fringe by how over-due a haircut I am! I went to my local Toni & Guy for a trim last week and just couldn't stop stroking it afterwards... not just me right?!

And it snowed! Only briefly though, and I'm pretty glad about that because I didn't fancy wading through the snow on my way to work.

I've been trying a technology detox recently, mainly because I am awful at trying to switch off before going to bed, which means I don't sleep that well. So far it's going well, but it does feel like a little out of the loop! Read my tips on Switching Off From Technology.

Hope you all have a great new week!

My 2016 London Bucket List

Every year I create a London Bucket List, things to visit, do and see throughout the year. Luckily enough I don't live too far away and work in central London during the week, so I manage to see a few places in my spare time! Although last year I didn't quite get to finish my list, this year it's my goal to tick off every one:

- Visit the British, Natural History, Imperial and Science Museum.
Like the geek I am, I used to love visiting museums on school trips and haven't been to one in years! The British Museum is at the top and the Natural History always looks so good from the outside, that I know it'll be amazing inside.

- Go to the Tower Of London
After visiting the poppy memorial in 2014, the Tower Of London has been on my list to visit for a while. Especially as I love historic places too!

- Have a picnic in Regent's Park
Right now I'm dreaming of summer days, eating salads and ice creams in the park. So this year I've got Regent's Park on my picnic to-do list!

- Watch Aladdin in the West End
So this is a bit of a cheat, as I've already booked tickets! Aladdin is one of my favourite Disney films and when I found out the play was opening just around the corner from me, it was too hard not to buy some!

- Watch a play at Shakespeare's Globe
Again, like the geek I am, my English Literature courses were dominated by Shakespeare so I'd love to catch a play there this summer. Hopefully there will be a good one that I know on!

- Visit Notting Hill and Portabelo Road again
Years and years ago I went to Notting Hill and Portabelo Road but I'd love to go again in the spring for shopping and eating tons of paella!

- Shop and eat my way through Spitalfields Market
One of my work colleagues lives near by Spitalfields and has promised me the best breakfast there one weekend - of course if it's food, I'm so excited!

- Ride a Boris Bike
Cliche and a bit of a random one, but working in London for the past year and a half (how quickly has that time gone?!) and seeing people using Boris Bikes kind of makes me want to try one! Even if I am an awful cyclist...

What's your must-see London places? Have you got a travel bucket list?

OOTD: Stripey Swing Dress and The Comfiest Shoes

Coat: Warehouse
Dress: Zara
Shoes: Topshop
Bag: ASOS
Gloves: Marks & Spencer
Scarf: New Look
Necklace: Accessorize

At first I was unsure of this dress, but after wearing it a few times I love it! It was a total bargain in Zara, for £9.99 in the January sale and featured on my New Year Sales Haul. Reason why I was unsure is because it isn't in the usual shape and style I wear, but I'm addicted to stripes and that swung it for me! The swing sleeves are my favourite feature, just because I haven't got anything like it already and I can't resist doing lots of twirls...

These shoes are my cold winter shoes because they have the warmest lining and thick rubber sole for those icy patches! Although now it's a lot colder, I'll be wearing it with a pair of knee high boots instead. But right at this time I feel like a snow suit and thermal clothes would be much more appropriate for the current snowy weather!

What do you think of this outfit? Did you get anything in the sales?

How To Switch Off From Technology

The hardest thing I am finding at the moment is switching off from technology. There's always a Youtube video to watch, a Twitter chat to join or blogs to read and comment on. It doesn't help that I sit in front of a computer all day, watch programes on my iPad on my commute then browse the internet during my evenings.

So as a sort of New Year resolution, I've planned to cut down on the technology procrastination. You know those times when you end up so far into Instagram, you can't find the original photo you clicked off from? Or those long Facebook sessions where you've ended up on an ex-boyfriend's sister's fiance's profile? To stop those super fun times, I've come up with a few easy-to-follow points I thought I'd share:

- Allotted time.
When you actually count up how long you've probably spent on a computer, phone or tablet, it can sometimes be a big chunk out of your day. Obviously if you work on a computer then you can't escape using that one, but allotting an hour, say from 7-8pm during the evenings, helps to bring a bit of structure - and makes you use the time more efficiently!

- Switch off after 9pm.
It's known that the light from technology devices can keep your brain awake and stop you from sleeping well. I always try to switch off my phone and tablet after 9pm then read a book to help me fall asleep better!

- Manage your time.
There's tons of apps which can help manage you battery and data usage, but an app called BreakFree tracks how often you pick up your phone, how long you use it for and can help you set goals to minimise your phone usage everyday.

- Spend time doing other things.
Activities that don't involve using technology are a great way to spend some time away from your phone. I'm an avid reader and have tons of books to read which are a perfect alternative to another Youtube video. Colouring books, spending time with friends and family or trying out a new receipe are all fab to try too!

What do you do to switch off from technology? What do you think of these tips?

My Instagram Favourites

Probably my most used social media app is Instagram, it's easy to scroll through and like everyone else's insanely amazing photos, and a great way to share your blog posts! Following my update from last year, I thought I'd share a few of my current favourites and their Instagrams:

1. Samantha at Halycon_Velvet
The amount of times I've liked and commented on Samantha's Instagrams is too many to count, but her photos include some serious outfit and flat lay envy! Plus her outfits have inspired many a ASOS order too...

Go follow @halycon_velvet

2. April at April_Todd
Another seriously fab blogger and Instagram feed, April has totally got the monochrome theme down and I love it. And her makeup tutorials are so amazing, definitely jealous of her eyeliner flicks!

Go follow @April_Todd

3. Warehouse at warestyle
Warehouse is my one-stop place for smart workware, and their Instagram feed is my dream wardrobe, so liking their images feels like I'm shopping really...

Go follow @warestyle

4. London Brunching at BrunchLondon
And as if I could post my Instagram favourites without a food account?! London Brunching is, as you can guess, an account all about the best London Brunches. Featuring delicious pancakes, full english breakfasts and the classic avocado on toast.

Go follow @brunchlondon

5. The Fat Jewish at thefatjewish
Similar to randomturtle, The Fat Jewish is the best laugh on Instagram at the moment. He takes current events and adds his own humor to it, definitely worth checking out!

L'Oreal Paris Palette, Eyeliner and Brow Makeup Haul

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette Nude in Rose Palette, L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim Eyeliner in Intense Black and L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper Makeup Haul Boots Offer Review Swatches Look Beauty Blogger

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette Nude in Rose Palette, L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim Eyeliner in Intense Black and L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper Makeup Haul Boots Offer Review Swatches Look Beauty Blogger

I've really got to stop walking into these 3 for 2 Boots offers... I don't usually go for L'Oreal makeup but I'd heard such great things about Super Liner that it was a hard temptation to not resist! The L'Oreal palettes and eyeshadows are always so gorgeous too, even though I don't wear eyeshadow on a daily basis, I always find myself swatching the shimmery golds and deep bronzes. And as my brows are always in need of an extra something, I've dipped my toes into the brow gel category.

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette Nude in Rose Palette, L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim Eyeliner in Intense Black and L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper Makeup Haul Boots Offer Review Swatches Look Beauty Blogger

First up is my favourite and how-have-I-not-tried-this-before purchase, the L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim. I struggle with eyeliner flicks at the best of times, one eye is perfectly angled whilst the other is on a downward spiral and can't match its pal. With the Super Liner Perfect Slim Eyeliner, I can manage an almost-even eyeliner flick and create a super thin line on the inner corner too. Overall, I love this eyeliner with its super easy nib and jet black colour, and for not making me look like a panda all the time!

The L'Oreal Paris Brow Artist Plumper was the third 'now I've got two products, what will be my third product?!' which I've grown to like. Usually I'll brush through my eyebrows with a spooley brush, then add in my light brown eyebrow powder and I'm done. What the Brow Artist Plumper actually does is lift the hairs upwards to create a natural arch shape and keeps them there for the whole day. It can take away a little of the eyebrow powder, but I love the definition and shape it gives to my barely-there brows.

L'Oreal Paris Color Riche La Palette Nude in Rose Palette, L'Oreal Paris Super Liner Perfect Slim Eyeliner in Intense Black and L'Oreal Brow Artist Plumper Makeup Haul Boots Offer Review Swatches Look Beauty Blogger

Finally, I couldn't not pick up a pretty palette from L'Oreal Paris could I? I'm always drawn towards pink and purple eyeshadows, because I think any other colour is a bit too 'out there' for me! The La Palette Nude in Rose has a good mixture of matte and shimmer shades, which I'll be able to mix and match for during the day and going out too.  My favourites are definitely the third one in from the left, third one in from the right and the last one on the right. Only one I'm not too sure about is the peachy shade, but I reckon I could add this across my lids to add a bit of gold shimmer.

Lasting power without a primer or cream eyeshadow isn't too great, so I would recommend using either two before applying these! But the colour pay off is great quality for the price. Tools I use for applying this palette are the Base Shadow Brush for all over colour, the Angled Shadow Brush for my crease line and the tiny Detailer Brush for the inner corners and lower lash line.

And this is the finished look! I went for a matte and peachy day look, along with a little eyeliner. It's pretty hard to see, but this is a definite look I'll be trying out again!

Have you tried these L'Oreal products before? What beauty buys have you got recently?

OOTD: Denim Dress and Stripey Polo Neck

Coat: Warehouse
Dress: Miss Selfridge
Top and Scarf: Primark
Boots: New Look
Bag: ASOS
Gloves: Marks & Spencer

Another Thursday and another OOTD! I love this denim dress I found in the Miss Selfridge sale (see more in my New Year Sales Haul!) and can't wait to wear more of it throughout the year. Pinterest definitely gave me the inspiration for layering a polo top underneath, although I don't think I quite pulled it off quite as well as they did but I'd love to try Alexa Chung's style next.

Even though I usually hate the cold weather (who likes having cold and wet toes?!) it does give me the opportunity to wear my new leather gloves. You know that piece of clothing that makes you feel suddenly all grown up? These gloves were definitely it! Gone were the novelty Christmas and sparkly wooly pairs from Primark, now it's all about the sophisticated Marks and Spencer leather gloves! Although I'll still be wearing my Christmas socks obvs...

What do you think of this outfit? What piece of clothing makes you feel all grown up when you wear it?

New Year Sale Haul: Fashion & Beauty

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015

There seems to always be a sale on somewhere, whether it's Black Friday, a Mid-Season sale or just plain old New Year Sales. This haul was actually spread across a few weeks, one with a 30% discount offer from ASOS (obvs couldn't say no!) and a shopping trip down to Brighton over Christmas and New Years for a few products for the new year.

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015

I'll start with ASOS as this actually came before Christmas, all those months ago now! Ha. I really didn't need this dress, but I spotted Samantha from Haylcon Velvet wearing this on her Instagram and couldn't resist. To justify its purchase, it's beautifully light for both spring and summer but an added thick cardigan and boots can work for autumn and winter too. Plus I do love a daisy and monochrome print!

The boring ASOS purchases were these two slim leg work trousers in black and navy. I'm fed up of wearing jeans to work, even though I am allowed to but sometimes a pair of smart trousers makes all the difference to your attitude and first impressions. Both shapes are totally flattering and the quality means it'll last a long time, I hope!

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015

So I may be a bit late the the denim dress bandwagon, but when have I ever wanted to follow trends?! Miss Selfridge had a whole row of these denim dresses, down from £42 to £20 - so it was hard to say no really. Usually I opt for a lighter denim wash, but I think dresses look smarter and much more wearable in a darker shade. I'll be adding a polo neck underneath and black knee high boots for winter, then a pair of sandals and rolled up sleeves during the summer. Favourite fashion purchase!

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015
Zara Striped Dress (Unfortunately I cannot find it online, but here's something similar!)

Unlike the denim dress, I was unsure of this Zara dress at first. Does it look too sack-like? Could it swamp me? Am I just a big zebra crossing? I ignored those doubts and bought it to try on at home. Now I love it, the dress does all the talking so all I'll need to add on is a necklace and shoes. I particularly love the bell sleeves and have to fight the urge to flap around my room when wearing it!

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015
Accessorize Marble Necklace (Unfortunately I can't find it online, but it's in the sale with 50% off!) Accessorize 4 x Howlite and Tear Drop Stud Pack £6

Another trend that passed by me without a raised eyebrow is marble. I'll admit it does look pretty (probably the main allure to all these purchases) but it's better late than never! The necklace itself is quite long and I wore it in this OOTD last week, so you can get the idea. I'm a sucker for any Accessorize pack of earrings, because they're great value for money and there's always so much choice. My favourites are the marble rectangles and black triangles, proving I love my shaped earrings!

New Year Sale Haul ASOS Zara Miss Selfrige Rituals Accessorize Fashion Beauty Dresses Necklace Earrings Beauty 2015
Rituals Organic Rice Milk & Cherry Blossom Gift Set (Unfortunately I cannot find this set either, but Marks & Spencer do have the Indian Rose & Himalayan Honey version on sale)

Last but not least, my proudest bargain moment (and also the blurriest photo moment, sorry about that!) I was lucky enough to pick up the Marks & Spencer Beauty Advent Calendar, which featured a mini Rituals Foaming Shower Gel that I fell in love with, it's the small things in life! Then when I was out shopping in Brighton, my mum called to say there were these Rituals beauty sets and to get to Marks & Spencers quick because there was only two left. Lo and behold I picked up the second to last one with 50% off! So far I have used the Body Scrub and Foaming Shower Gel, and adore the scent of them both. Full review of them all to come soon!

Instagram: A Catch Up, New OOTD and The Best Burger

A little #MotivationalMonday (and yes I really did say that!) I spotted this at a flea market in Lewes and couldn't resist posting it to Instagram! I had a really rubbish and stressful day at work this week, but my colleagues kept making me laugh and smile. So keep smiling even through the bad days and especially whilst you still have teeth!

A posted about my Box Of Gratitude this week, post here. Basically to start the year off, I thought I'd start filling this tin of good thoughts, appreciative moments and happy quotes that I can pick through whenever I'm having a down day. And so far it really works!

There were a few weird trends in 2015 (glitter eyebrows and pool sliders, I'm looking at you!) but one of my favourite comebacks is the humble roll neck jumper. I'm not a low cut top kinda gal anyway, but these jumpers are just too cosy and cool! I wrote about this OOTD the other day and have worn the exact same outfit at least twice since...

Hungry? Yup, so am I now! Along with my dearest and oldest friend, we're always on the hunt for a good burger place in London. Just before Christmas we tried out BRGR.Co in Soho and it's basically knocked Five Guys, Shake Shack and Byron Burger off the top spots. I'd definitely recommend the sweet potato chips and cheesecake too!

Sneak peek of an OOTD coming this week! I couldn't resist a quick selfie whilst taking photos, as my selfie folder in my phone pictures is filling up wayy too quickly. Also in need of a serious haircut, look at how long my fringe is! Totally in my eyes and so annoying...

What was your highlight this week? And don't forget to follow on Instagram!

Online Privacy: Does it exist?

There's no doubt that online and social media networks have evolved massively since their introduction, and many beyond our imaginations or belief. Something that keeps cropping up around this subject is privacy. We've seen those over sharing people on blogs, Facebook statuses or Twitter tweets that we all simultaneously eye roll over, but when is too much, too much?

The article that sparked this idea is of course Zoella and Pointless Blog's (i.e. Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes) home address being printed in a local newspaper, then distributed across well known online news sites. They're Youtubers, daily vlogging their lives and showing you how to create that perfect golden smokey eye in a 10 minute tutorial. Their fans know what products they use, what they eat and now where they sleep, is that online privacy gone too far?

It's easy to say now that it's totally unfair that their personal address was published for the public to see, but would it have been easy enough to find out (or at least narrow down) where they lived because their lives are so well documented? I do believe it is an invasion of their privacy to have their address published, but it could be argued that they can determine how much or how little people see if their lives through their social channels, which brings up the phrase creators of their own making.

On the other side of the spectrum, the Kardashians/Jenners have made their lives and money out of over sharing. We want to know what Kylie's lip products are, how Kim gets that tiny waist and what's happening with Khloe's estranged husband - and we find this all out on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. People look up to them because their perfect portrayal is so attractive and so widely spread across their social media channels.

We can control our blogs and privacy to an extent, but when is too much, too much? Everyone has the right to a private life, there's no doubting that. But it is worrying that more cases like online sex revenge from bitter ex partners posting intimate pictures are becoming common because there's no online privacy. In the future I can see more apps like Snapchat and Periscope becoming popular because we can get a live peek into someone else's life, perhaps more cases like the above happen to bloggers, youtubers and celebrities and you might even see famour people shun the online world totally, to keep a part of their lives private.

What do you think of online privacy? Do you believe it exists?

OOTD Outfit Of The Day Primark Roll Neck Dress Burgundy New Look Leather Boots Warehouse Topshop Accessorize Marks and Spencer 70s fashion 70s roll neck trend
Roll Neck Jumper Dress, Top and Scarf: Primark
Leggings: Topshop
Boots: New Look
Coat: Warehouse
Bag: H&M
Gloves: Marks & Spencer
Hat: Bon Prix
Necklace: Accessorize

I've been loving the roll neck trend this winter, especially as the weather has taken a cold and wet turn! This Primark roll neck dress is a current favourite as I can just throw on leggings and a pair of boots and I'm good to go. I think this dress is still in Primark on sale now, so grab it before it goes!

The whole outfit does have a very 70s feel to it with the leather boots (total steal in the summer when all boots were half price!) roll neck and long necklace. Even though it is a roll neck jumper, I will still wear a scarf over the top as it's been so cold - anyone else do this?!

What do you think of this outfit? Are you into the 70s roll neck trend?

The Box Of Gratitude

The Box Of Gratitude Notes Positivity A Note A Day Happiness

I'm a big believer in a positive attitude for a positive life outlook and today, I'm introducing you to my Box Of Gratitude. Across Pinterest and Instagram I've seen people create jars full of personal handwritten messages as a gift and took that idea to create my own. The idea of the Box Of Gratitude is to write down on my mini notepad (from an old Benefit Cosmetics advent calendar!) something I am grateful for, something good that happened that day or a note that makes me smile. Some might think it's a bit selfish or odd thing to do, but I'm not the best at keeping diaries so a note a day for my Box Of Gratitude helps keep track!

Once I've written the note, I fold it up after adding a date on the back. Then when I'm having a rubbish or down day, I just take one note out of the box and receive instant gratitude. I've already pre-filled a few notes to keep me going through January (because we all know what a rubbish month it is!) and aim to add at least 4 notes to my box every week. The great thing is that only you write and read the notes, so you can add anything you like that you know will add a smile to your face!

What do you think of The Box Of Gratitude? Do you do something similar?
