First port of call was a selfie in front of the Christmas tree at York station, now officially our Whatsapp group image! We walked 10 minutes to our B&B called The Ashberry, which I would totally recommend based on their amazing breakfast and hospitality - nothing to too much to ask and they were always helpful.
On to the actual Christmas Markets, even though it wasn't as big as the Bath Christmas Markets there were still a variety of stalls to choose from. A lot of unique and handmade gifts were on sale, as well as delicious food and mulled wine for those cold evenings!
York is also well known for it's architecture and buildings, The first image is of York Minster, which we attended an advent calendar service at - just bring extra layers and get there early because it's cold and gets busy! The second image is of a gateway into the York town centre, a few of these are dotted around the city along with a walled area.
You can actually walk along the York walls and almost do a full lap of the city in half a day, just be careful because some places don't have hand railings!
Whilst we walked around, we spotted York Minster a few times and look at how cute the house in the foreground is. It looks like a mini tower castle!
The only downside to our weekend was the weather - it rained a lot in York! Besides getting completely soaked doing our Christmas shopping, the river had overflowed onto the paths and up to some buildings. The black bollards second in on the left are where you can walk when the river is low!
After grabbing a few last pictures together on our last day, it was time to get the train back to London and head home, with full suitcases of course! Now I am glad I brought my large one with me...
Have you been to York before? What Christmassy plans have you got for December?
Thanks for reading!
