Book Review: You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher

"Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end if the aisle is Rob - the man she's about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben - best man and the best friend any two people ever had. And that's the problem"

There's no surprise that I am slowly becoming addicted to Giovanna Fletcher's books. Yes it is chic lit and yes it's another soppy love story, but that doesn't make it any less. See what I thought of Fletcher's first book, Billy And Me.

Although I'm usually sceptical of any book which takes the characters from when they were 5 years old until they're 40, You're The One That I Want actually pulled it off well. The issue I have with these timeline-style books are that the characters progress from their teenage to adult years just isn't convincing enough, in terms of their personality and the way in which they speak.

Maddy, Rob and Ben have been best friends through childhood, Maddy a young and shy new girl, Rob a 'mans man' and Ben, the understanding and gentle type. It's obvious that one of the boys will end up with Maddy, but which one? A typical love-triangle which ends surprisingly well and without much heartbreak. It provides the foundations for a girl-boy friendship and how to overcome betrayal and falling in love with the wrong girl.

Girly, mushy but totally realistic and down-to-earth, it's like a warm hug and chat with your girlfriends rolled into one. It'll brighten up any miserable day and keep you holding on to each page.

Have you read You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher? What's been your best read recently?

Thanks for reading!
