Book Review: Beauty by Louise Mensch

If you've been a regular reader for a while now, you may have noticed my addiction with any book related to New York. I don't know what it is about the city, but for me New York is young, vibrant and full of opportunites - which makes it a great setting for chic lit (ugh, hate that name!) books.

Dina Kane isn't loved by anyone except her brother. Her father works on a construction site and falls to his death and her mother refers to Dina as 'the mistake.' No college or future, Dina is determined to make her life in New York. After threatening her mum for money, she starts a life in New York, experiences a bad (and quite frankly pyscho) boyfriend but never stops working hard for her dreams. Someone is out to drag her down but she's ready and waiting for revenge.

It's girls kicking arse. That's probably why I like it so much, I hate any book with weak and feeble characters - like that's the only way women are supposed to be portrayed. Beauty has a dark side to it, murder, drugs, prostitution, the Mafia, are a few themes which arise throughout. But there's always something around the corner you just don't see coming.

Dina works tirelessy in beauty stores, selling and marketing products - so I'd totally recommend this to any beauty blogger. She spends about half a chaper talking through various products and their benefits and with a tag line Blend it. Scuplt it. Shape it. Use it... it's all about the beauty.

Have you read Beauty before?

Thanks for reading!
