Before when you blogged, it would just be for the fun of it, another hobby that you could enjoy. But as blogging as a whole has grown in the past few years, numbers have become more and more important.
Like any other human, you compare yourself to other bloggers and think 'how have they got more followers than I have?' It could be for a number of reasons like they've been blogging for longer/blog consistently/produce on point and engaging content each time/are total website whizzes - pick your reason, but that doesn't mean your numbers don't count.
Ways to not get bogged down with the numbers:
- Be grateful for the followers you do have.
- Everyone started with one follower, it'll grow with time.
- Learn from others - explore their blog/Twitter/Instagram etc and find out what they are doing that you're not and how you could improve on that.
- Find your niche and perfect that until you can do it with your eyes closed
- Let it go. In this digital age, a number is just another among millions. You'll have some that stick around and others that don't, so don't let it get to you too much.
What I wanted to do with this post was reassure others that numbers and follower counts aren't crucial to every day life. Of course, for some bloggers and youtubers who do this for a living the numbers are one of the, if not the, most important things of their careers, so this won't apply to everyone.
It's just a topic that's been niggling in my mind for a while now that I wanted to share. Please let me know your opinions on followers, numbers and all that jazz in the comments - I'd love to know whether you disagree or agree with the above!
