Review: The Theory of Everything

The Theory of Everything Review

The first blockbuster of the year is always exciting to see. You've just come round from the slumber of Christmas and still reliving your New Years Day hangover (aren't we all) so there's nothing like a good old trip to the cinema.

If you're like me, and haven't got a lot of knowledge on Stephen Hawking besides his famous book, then you'll be just fine. More than the story behind his career as a world famous physicist, the backbone of the film is his life with his first wife, Jane Wilde Hawking.

As the film is based on her memoir, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, it documents their first meeting in Cambridge to divorce. It's a poignant yet realistic adaptation of their life together. Even though a two hour film can never justify the physical and emotional journey they encountered in their marriage, it gives just a little insight into what life is really like for Stephen Hawking.

Obviously recognition has to go to Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones for their astounding performances. Eddie was clearly devoted to playing Stephen to a T, in which he gained approval from the man himself (I also read somewhere that Stephen gave Warner Bros permission to use his copyrighted voice!) Felicity Jones also presented Jane's highs and lows in a inspirational manner, which is why I won't be surprised if the film wins a collection of awards this year.

Have you seen The Theory of Everything? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comments!
