I'll definitely hold my hands high and say I'm an avid supporter of women. In a previous post on International Women's Day I found a bunch of statistics on women in the work force. Although we got the vote in the last century and things are becoming more gender equal, there's still a massive problem in that area.
Last Wednesday, I was lucky enough to got to Go Think Big's Girls Talk event, which brought together four women who were all successful in their careers to talk to us about how they got to the positions they are in today. It was a definite eye opener on how many issues stand in the way for women to getting to where they want, but with advice from the panel and from other audience members, we all shared our tips and experiences with each other to help us fulfil our own potential. Since leaving that event, I feel a lot more proactive and inspired to get to where I want to be in the future and would recommend all girls and women to go along to one (all ages were in attendance!). Probably the best bit of advice I got from the evening was to find what's right for you and what you like doing best, which I'll be keeping in mind for my job search in the next few months!
Have you been to an event like this before? What do you think should be done to create a more equal workforce?
Thanks for reading!
