Review: The Wolf of Wall Street

I'll be the first to admit that at first, I wasn't a massive fan of this film. It definitely wasn't what I expected and it went on for ages! 3 hours to be exact, only Harry Potter is worth that much of my time! But I'll say that on reflection it wasn't too bad.

Based on a true story of a New York stockbroker, his highs and lows and how he made so much money scamming thousands of people (kind of reminds me of Catch Me If You Can, coincidentally DiCaprio also plays the leading part). It was interesting, don't get me wrong, to see how he managed all that but the second half was much better. Showing his downfall from a wealthy and respected businessman to a crumpled mess, whose wife hates him and eventually getting put in prison.

As an avid film goer, I take notice of how the whole film is created and made to feel realistic. The set and props are, of course, on point and in keeping with the era. That's probably one of the things I like about seeing films set in the 1900s, you get to see what they wore, where they lived etc. And as usual DiCaprio was the outstanding actor that he always is, with equally as good Jonah Hill (watch this video of them together, you can see why they're such amazing actors!). I still can't believe DiCaprio hasn't won an Oscar yet! His best part is when he took too many drugs and then had to get home to stop Jonah screwing up, brilliant acting and just hilarious (video here

So even though I started off not liking it, I did find it interesting and it showcased what talented actors Jonah Hill and DiCaprio are and the second half did pick up pace, making it an overall good film.

Have you seen The Wolf of Wall Street? What did you think of it?

Thanks for reading!
