Reflection: 2013

Hey guys! So New Years Eve is here (or if you're in Australia, like my brother, Happy New Year!!) and as always, it's time for reflection *puts on serious face* To say that 2013 has been a big year for me is an understatement. So here's my highlights!

Starting in July, because not much happened before that besides sixth form and exams! My first proper girls holiday with these lovely lot. I definitely will never forget the week a spent lounging on the beach and drinking Ouzo like it was water. It helped me become more independent with feeding myself and actually getting the correct plane (Knowing me, I could have got on a plane to Greenland and not noticed!) I've already got a ton of ideas for travelling places next year, exciting times!

Finally turning 18 and getting my first tattoo, both long awaited! Although I spent my actual birthday in Kos (I got called Queen Rhiannon and didn't have to lift a finger all day, thanks girls!) I also had a family get together back home, where my talented sister made me this enormous cake. I did a little post on my tattoo here but I'll just say that I don't regret getting it done and still love it!

The first proper weekend (well four day!) long festival. I've been to day festivals before but Reading was my first proper time. Spending four days in a tent with this lovely gal and seeing some of my favourite bands perform will definitely make this year a memorable one. Biffy, Bastille and Eminem have to be up there in my favourites! Plus it was the only time of year when a cider and greasy bacon and egg sandwich was normal for breakfast.

My first day of college and I look way too happy! And to think I knew nothing about the demon that is shorthand and public affairs.... On reflection (becoming a recurring theme!) if I hadn't had gone to Brighton City College, I wouldn't be the same person. I feel like I've really come into myself and if someone had told me that I'd make friends on the course and go out with everyone every week then I probably would've laughed in your face. It was a massive step for me and in the end I just thought, stuff it, I'm not going to be a lonely loser for the whole year. If they're reading, thanks for not letting me be the lonely ginger person I would've been, I appreciate it!

And my final highlight is this blog! Everything But The Kitchen Sink has been my baby for the past year or so and I felt like I've really developed it over that time. I've gotten into a routine, which I'm going to continue into 2014 with some new ideas. Thanks to new and old people who have stuck around and watch this space for new and (hopefully!) better things.

Roll on 2014, I'm ready for you.

Thank you all for supporting this blog and I hope you all have a good New Year!

"And I need your heart, because you're always in the right places"

Jacket: Zara
Jumper: Primark
Jeans and Bag: H&M
Shoes: River Island
Scarf: New Look

I would say my New Years Resolution would be to stop doing the head tilt in photos, but it's a hard habit to get rid of. I'm off out tonight to the cinema to see Seeing Mr Banks, feels like ages since I last went! At one point I was going at least once a week, but at the moment there's not a lot of decent things on (Sorry, but the Hobbit is included in that category too!) I never want to wear anything too fancy to the cinema because what's the point?! Although an image of me turning up in a ballgown seems quite entertaining. Plus they're always blooming freezing! So a scarf is necessary really.... also it's good to hide behind at scary parts.

I braved the rain and wind today at work and got so wet and cold. Wet feet = Not a happy Rhiannon. All the animals were pretty flooded out but it did perk up a bit (why am I talking about the weather?!!) Moving on.... I spent the rest of my day by the fire, watching Railway Children and generally moping about over my exams coming up soon which I've hardly revised for. Nothing like a last minute panic to get you out of that Christmas slump...

Hope you're all having a good week! Thanks for reading :)

Favourite Christmas Presents

Seeing a gazillion Christmas present posts pop up across my dashboard has made me ashamed of my half-hearted attempt at yesterdays beauty present version, so here's a post on my favourite presents this year!

Of course, no one likes a bragger, which is why some people get a bit funny about these kind of posts. But I always think that Christmas is about giving gifts to your nearest and dearest and basically expressing how much you care for them blah blah blah. Plus one of my favourite things about Christmas is spending time with everyone, getting all your family is the same room playing games and generally eating as much as you can.

Sometimes the little things are the best. My friend got me this cute card holder, as I travel a lot to college and up to London so I've always got a ton of tickets in my purse and bag. Also, I love the saying, I can just imagine that it'll give me a little boost in the mornings when I've got to get those dreaded trains again....

Also from my friend and something that I forgot to put in yesterdays post! I'm not a massive bright and look-at-me make-up gal, less is more for me, so I usually go for the natural style. The little pot is a cream eyeshadow is a rosy pink colour, which you put on before the other eye shadows is set them. I've already tried them out and love them - sometimes simple is the way to go! Another thumbs up to Benefit is the lip gloss, Dandelion, which doesn't feel like I've ducked my lips in slime and glitter.

Continuing with Benefit.... my mum spotted the Boots weekly half price product was The Best of Benefit set for £25, which I think is pretty good considering what you're getting! I've tried them all out (one of the best things to do with new make-up and beauty products!) and adore them all, especially They're Real Mascara and High Beam, which I may have to purchase the full size and dutifully ignore the price tags.

My lovely and thoughtful sister got me this handmade necklace which she picked out the charms for. So there's a R for my name, a humming bird because I like birds.... borderline obsessed with them and a ruby bead as my birthstone. I'd say this is probably my overall favourite as it's quite personal and unique.

Books!! Ironically I've haven't read a book in about a month now, just because I've been so busy and can't keep my eyes open for long enough. The John Green collection is something I've been looking forward to for ages - I reviewed Fault in Our Stars here. If you haven't read any of his books, read them now! Life changing is all I'll say. Of course, The Great Gatsby made it in, another favourite which all I can describe is as magical. The Yellow World by Albert Espinosa is a very long awaited arrival as it was only printed in the UK not long ago. In short it's about his 10 year battle with cancer and his discoveries from that time, something that is close to my heart with family members who have fought and are fighting cancer. I Heart Christmas is another long awaited book, completing my I Heart collection, also reviewed here. They're addictive, almost finished it! And finally The Universal Journalist. I started it the other day and it seems like a very insightful book into journalism and what to expect etc. Fingers crossed it'll help! God, I must seem like a book nerd now!

As always, I am very thankful for all my presents and do not mean to brag, but it's my way of showing my gratification! Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and got lots of special presents!

Thanks for reading!

Christmas Beauty Gifts

Merry Christmas everyone!

So I am totally stuffed with turkey and too many chocolates from these past few days, it's safe to say I'll be starting the New Years exercising soon! I was a very lucky girl with presents from my family and friends this year, so instead of compiling a huge post of all my presents, I thought I'd just add in the beauty bits I got as the rest are mostly books and chocolate anyway!

Usually I get a ton of Soap and Glory stuff for Christmas and my birthday, which means I've got a ton of products that I haven't even used yet. My mum knows my favourite scrub is Pulp Friction and that I wanted to try out the Sugar Crush that everyone and their dog have been raving about. I haven't used Sugar Crush yet but it smells so fresh and fruity - definitely one that'll be good for the summer.

Boots always do deals every week running up to Christmas on certain products and this Ted Baker set was on sale one week. It comes in a beautiful vanity case which I absolutely love, as well as the products inside! I would say they are very perfumy, if that makes sense! I've only used the bubble bath and body soffle which seems to sink into the skin pretty well, so far so good!

My sister got me these cute handcreams from Marks and Spencer. They're handbag friendly size and smelly gorgeous, at the moment I'm using the rose scent which is my favourite! Even though Marks and Spencer can seem old lady-ish their basic clothes and beauty bits aren't actually that bad and you know you're always going to get great quality.

My sisters boyfriends parents got me this little Sanctuary set, which will be so good for travelling! It's Sanctuary's distinct smell which I, luckily, like. Again, you know you'll always be getting good quality bath products with Sanctuary, as well as not too expensive price tags.

Perhaps one of my favourite beauty related presents. My friend got me the Best of Korres set, which I'll admit, I hadn't really heard of before. I knew they were a Greek beauty brand but I had no clue how good they were etc. So I'm pretty excited to try this out! So far I've used the cleanser, mask and moisturiser which all seem to be doing their jobs whilst not being too heavy or thick, definitely looking forward to seeing good results from this!

I did also get a couple of Benefit make-up sets which I might possibly include in a post tomorrow. Right now I'm off out for dinner with a few friends.

Hope you all have a good weekend!

CHRISTMAS

Jumper: New Look
Jeans: M&S
Slippers: Accessorize

I give up apologising for my head tilt, clearly it's here to stay! Moving on.... it's CHRISTMAS TOMORROW!! I'm so excited this year! Christmas jumper is back out in full swing again. Got all my presents wrapped, all ready for tomorrow and Boxing Day. This year we're spreading out the presents as we're kinda celebrating two Christmas Days for some reason!

So far this week hasn't got off to the best of starts. With that crazy storm last night, a couple of trees fell down in our road and our next door neighbours fell across our drive, plus our whole garage got flooded out. We spent ages sweeping out the water but the garage was still flooded. What's also a bit annoying is that my sister's boyfriend is trying to sort out the whole Gatwick situation and he's been there since midnight last night and might not be back for Christmas or Boxing Day at this rate! We're all suppose to go round there for Christmas Day but who knows what's happening with this storm!

We're about to go off to a carol service and then out for a meal as it's a tradition that we've always done! I probably won't be blogging tomorrow but may be Boxing Day if I've got some spare time :)

Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!

Jumper Love

Coat: Zara
Jumper and Boots: New Look
Jeans: M&S
Scarf: Primark

Hey! I adore my massive collection of jumpers (one of my favourite things about winter is wearing jumpers and cosy clothes!), something I can snuggle up it and keep warm throughout the winter. I remember my sister bought me this jumper a couple of years ago and I'm pretty sure my mum has shrunk it since, it's so cropped!! But still one of the thickest jumpers I own. Plus it's stripy - who wouldn't like that?!

So far I haven't been blown away just yet. Although there's still a couple of hours left of this crazy weather. I spent the morning in it at work, all the animals are pretty flooded out too, bless them, luckily I'm not in until Christmas Day now! What was suppose to be an afternoon of revision and general Christmas cheer and meeting my friend for a Nandos has ended up being a cold evening, bailing out the garage and keeping warm by the fire. Annoyingly a tree has fallen down across our road so it's quite difficult to get out at the moment! The only option is to stay inside, add a ton of face mask to my ugly mug and watch a ton of Christmas films....

Skulls

Coat: Zara
Dress and Cardigan: New Look
Scarf: Accessorize
Boots: H&M

Gahhh it's that weird lightening again! The lightening in my room is pretty poor - yellow energy savers anyone?! I remember when I first got this dress didn't think I'd wear it that much, how wrong was I! Definitely one of my favourite casual dresses that works throughout the year. Also this cardigan is another favourite. I always hate baggy sleeves but these ones are quite slim and the quality isn't that bad for the price, I think I paid something like £18!

Another crazy day, work in the morning then off to Lewes (a town in the South East) to visit my grandma and grandad's stones in the cemetery and a spot of lunch with my mum and sister. Needless to say we got blown away for most of it but we also caught up with my auntie and uncle which was nice. Right now, I'm planning on eating a hell of a lot of sticky toffee pudding whilst watching Transformers and just wait for Christmas to arrive!

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Christmas Tree and Birds

Jumper and Skirt: New Look
Boots: Topshop

Yay! It's the Christmas tree! Although I will admit that it was only a quick thrown on the tinsel and twirl the lights around job but even so. And yes that is my one and only Christmas jumper I wore to my last day at my internship until next year. I got it years ago but it's really soft and warm so it kept me cosy at the office!

My day didn't get off to the best of starts yesterday. I was going in late anyway coz it was the last working day for me before Christmas, once I arrived at the station the car park machine wouldn't take my coins, then a bird pooped on me and kinda got it on my face and hair THEN the train was really late and delayed which meant I had to run to the office, despite still being late.

But it did get better, a few free dvds and books were going at the office so I nabbed them. Then I went to a nail salon launch with the editor and a features writer which was really fun. I got my nails painted in a festive gold and some of the donations were for charity which was nice. Then I just slobbed out at home watching Education Yorkshire (gotta love it). Today has been pretty uneventful really, just doing college work and then off out tonight to meet a friend for dinner. Fingers crossed no birds will poo on me again!

Hope you've all had a good week!

Japanese and Chinese culture

Coat and Jacket: Zara
Jumper: Primark
Top: International
Jeans: H&M
Shoes: Converse
Head Tilt: Own

I'm never one to follow the trends as such. At the moment the only clothing in the shops seem to be dark plum, greens and wintry shades, which I still love and wear. But sometimes it's nice to have a break from all the doom and gloom of the end of the year!

If anyone knows me well, they'll know I love Japanese and Chinese culture. The food, art, traditions, pretty much everything! Which is why I was clearly drawn to his top, simple chiffon-y and loose material, making it the perfect feminine piece. Add a chunky cable knit to keep me warm in this winter misery and my trusty ripped jeans and Converse and I'm set for another day at college!

Last official week of college for the year, and man has it all gone so quick! I was thinking of creating a 2013 tag, asking questions about your achievements of the year, favourite item of clothing, beauty product etc. I can't remember if there's usually a tag like that floating around, but expect that soon!

I've got a ton of work to do, plus exams in January so I'll definitely be kept busy throughout December. Tomorrow I've got my internship (they've let me go in later as it's Christmas, how sweet?!) plus the editor has asked me to come along to a nail salon launch with her in the afternoon, so I'm sure I'll be blogging about that too!

Hope you're all having a good week!

Burberry A/W

Blazer and Shoes: New Look
Skirt: Primark
Necklace: Topshop
Bag: H&M

I'll always love my skinny jeans and Converse outfits but getting ready for a night out is one of my guilty pleasures. I'm sure many girls will agree with me, when I say that sorting through all your make-up, clothes and hair products is always a task that'll be greeted with open arms. I still can't believe that I found this pretty skirt in Primark of all the places! I remember seeing this heart print all over Burberry's A/W 2013 collection and just loving the updated version of the spot print. Also what's quite amazing is how catwalk pieces from designers filter through the system to eventually reach the high street. And that all styles can be affordable for everyone, isn't that what it should be about? Fashion being accessible for everyone?

My slight hangover had to endure the morning at work, then an afternoon of catching up on all my work. Thankfully it's all done now in time for X Factor. I haven't really been watching it much this year, just lack of time and interest really! But I did like Luke Friend, shame he left but hopefully something good will come of it.

Hope you've all had a good weekend!

These boots are made for walking...

Coat and Top: Zara
Cardigan: M&S
Boots: H&M
Scarf: Sisters

One of my favourite things about winter is boots. Hats, gloves and massive jumpers are just another awkward thing to wear, but boots keep your feet warm and, most importantly, I can wear crazy odd socks without anyone seeing :) I think most people don't like their feet for numerous reasons, but I particularly suffer with wider feet, making pumps so painful to break into, luckily I don't have that problem with most boots! This was just something I chucked on quickly as I usually have about half an hour to get ready, including a shower, on college mornings. I'll admit that I got a few comments about my boots being Puss in Boots boots and Peter Pan and Robin Hood shoes but hey ho, they keep my feet warm whilst not showing off my Christmas tree jumpers (only to be worn in December might I add).

After not getting much done yesterday, I made a plan to get up early and get all of it done before I go out tonight. So far I've done all the easy and quick stuff, just leaving the test papers and articles I've got to write, they should definitely sell Santa's elves at this time of year, think of all the work I could get done with them?! Failing that, I've got my music keeping me going (The Kooks, Bombay Bicycle Club and The Rolling Stones). On another plus I think I've nearly got all my Christmas shopping done, thinking of getting my sister's boyfriend this. Oh, by the way, he's 27. I'm sure he'll still love it though!

Have you got all your Christmas shopping done?
Thanks for reading, hope you all have a good weekend!

Day to Night

 Coat, Bag and Cardigan: Zara
Dress and Boots: Topshop
Scarf: Primark

I always envy people who can go from day to night with a few simple changes. Me on the other hand, just can't seem to master it. I had my internship Christmas party last monday, so I had to work out what I was going to wear that didn't look too casual or too smart at college as well as at the party. In the end, I just took off the scarf and added a statement necklace and put on  a bit more make-up, it's only Brighton after all, anything goes really. I did realise that I might have looked a bit too leopard printy (just made that word up!) so I hope I didn't look too much like Kat Slater from Eastenders....

For the past twenty minutes or so I've been having a panic and general moan at Blogger again. For some reason my photos were uploading fine then I went to add them to my post but only the icon came up. I did a preview to see if they would come up once published and they did, but I looked like a fat Santa elf. Finally it fixed itself, maybe it was a Christmas miracle?!

Yesterday I got another bulk of my Christmas shopping done, only Lush stuff to get next week so it stays extra fresh and a few bits online that I couldn't find in store, then I'll be done! Like most women, I like a Christmas good shop, although I am awful at wrapping them. Not as bad as my dad, but I'm pretty close. But I managed to wrap most of them this afternoon, only took a few hours! haha Right now I'm off to do some more work and eat some fudge :)

Hope you all have a good weekend!

Pastels in winter?!

Coat and Bag: Zara
Jumper: Topshop
Shirt: Primark
Jeans: M&S

Hello! Who said you couldn't wear pastels in the winter? I'm a sucker for a shirt and jumper combo and this Topshop style is right up my street. God knows what was going on with my hair, lately I've just given up with it, usually signals for a haircut. Haven't had one since September so I'm pretty glad I've gotten this far!

As I'm writing this, I'm about to collapse with exhaustion. It was my mum's 50th Birthday celebrations weekend, which involved shopping in Horsham then an overnight stay at a super super posh hotel called South Lodge. The staff called me Madam, never bloomin' get called that anywhere! I would upload the billion photos we took but I'm too lazy/can't work it out plus they probably wouldn't mean much to you guys anyway! So it's been a very busy few months and now I'm ready for hibernation until Christmas!

Right now I'm about to start my shorthand homework then drag myself into bed in preparation for another busy week. Got my internship Christmas party tomorrow, late night shopping on Thursday, possibly an interview on Friday then work at the weekend, plus college! Argghh! All in the name of journalism, plus a bit of shopping therapy for me :)

Hope you all have a good week!

Sucker for the deals

What was suppose to be a quick pop in to town to meet my friend for lunch and run a few errands, turned out to be a mini haul I guess! So far I've managed to convince myself that I do need all of it, but then again, I haven't checked my bank account yet....

I'm a total sucker for 3-for-2 deals and buy-one-get-one-free stuff, so it wasn't surprising when I went in for a new eyeliner I came out with three other purchases too. I've nearly run out of my Collection Extreme 24hr black eyeliner, it's served me well but I fancied a change. Rimmel do two different types of nip, one thick and one thin, I chose the thin coz I thought I'd be able to layer it up if need be, plus I'm not a massive fan of the thick cat eye flick! I heard a lot about the Stay Matte power, so again, breaking away from the norm of my Natural Collection powder. I guess the lipstick was just bought on a whim really. It's a lovely plum, pinky colour, a standard colour I can use day or night. Then the nail polish came free, all in all this lot came up to £12! Chuffed isn't even the word for what I felt when paying.

Dress: New Look

Finally got my New Years Eve dress! I found it in the Bath New Look but they didn't have my size :( It's a deep purple chiffon dress with black beaded straps, all kinda floaty so it can cover my Christmas tum! I found it really difficult to find a nice dress that didn't get my boobs/arse/back/stomach out, is anyone else feeling this too?! Who seriously wears crop tops in the dead of winter?!

Hope you're all having a good weekend and thank you for reading!

Puddles

Cardigan and Top: New Look
Jeans: M&S
Shoes and Necklace: Topshop

Sometimes I find that the most simplest of outfits are the best. I do wear a lot more darker colours in the winter (but doesn't everyone?!) and love a deep forest green and burgundy red at this time of year. Pretty sure you'll never get me out of these boots again! Warm and comfortable, although I've mastered the task of avoiding puddles after a deep puddle and cut out boot incident left me with wet feet :(

December is certainly my busiest month of the year, with various birthdays and, of course, Christmas to sort out. Last night was a college friend's birthday, so we all went out for a few drinks and a Mexican afterwards (Brighton's best Mexican is La Choza, hands down!) Which was the reason why there was no post yesterday, plus the fact that I didn't get home till gone midnight. Student life.

After dragging myself out of bed this morning, I managed to get my shorthand done and run a few errands before meeting my friend Helen for a late lunch and a catch up. We ended up mooching around town and buying a few bits for ourselves, every time we go out we end up buying the whole shop! So I'll be adding those bits in a post tomorrow :) This weekend it's my mum's 50th and me and my sister are taking her away to a posh hotel for the weekend and shopping of course, it's a hard life!

Hope you're all having a good week!

Bath Christmas Shopping!

So, despite saying that I'll be able to post over the past few days, the Internet at the B&B was so crappy that I didn't even attempt too, plus I was too busy shopping, of course!

My mum, sister and I always do something festive on the last weekend of November to get us in the mood for Christmas. This year we went down to Bath with two other family friends to spend a couple of days of, well, shopping, really!

On the Thursday we travelled down, which only took about two hours luckily! We headed straight to the Jane Austen tearooms to have lunch, hands down, some of the best scones I've ever had. Then we went to the famous Bath Spa for a couple of hours, relaxing in the pools (one on the roof!) and the saunas, whoever said life was hard?!

The very posh road we stayed at. Bath is one of the prettiest places I've been to in the UK, although everything is built up which means a ton of stairs (73 stairs just to our room!)

Friday was spent shopping at the Christmas Markets (image below) and the shopping centre in Bath, which meant I managed to get most of my family done!

Saturday we drove to Clarks Village near Glastonbury, where there's tons of outlet stores like M&S, Next, Body shop etc. My nan and grandad used to live nearby, so we went there a lot and there's quite a few memories there! Finally, today we strolled around the market again for any last minute bits then went back home and to be honest, I'm glad to be back in my own bed, but not for the mountain of homework I've got to do before tomorrow :(

Me and my sister, we tried to recreate the photos we took four years ago. They look so alike, proves that we haven't changed! As a requirement for the trip, we have to wear our festive hats the whole time.....

Hope you all have a good week and thanks for reading!
